A lot of these contests, especially WrestleMania 38 and 39 are a long way off, but there are plenty of new and returning shows to check out on CinemaBlend’s 2021 Summer TV schedule to hold you over. Just as is the case with every wrestling show ever put on (like the one time I was supposed to see Ric Flair wrestle, only for the Nature Boy to be replaced by Sid Vicious) the card is subject to change, and with so many events on the WWE calendar this next year, expect a lot of changes and updates along the way. The same can be said for Backlash this year, which featured a number of marquee rematches when it aired Sunday, May 16. From the inception of this pay-per-view event in 1999 and until 2009, Backlash was the post-Mania event, featuring a number of rematches from the Granddaddy of Them All. Up until 2021, WrestleMania Backlash was simply known as Backlash (I guess WWE wanted to get the most out of this year’s pirate-themed WrestleMania branding). WrestleMania 37 is nothing but a distant memory, and the road to next year’s Showcase of the Immortals (April 3, 2022, in the great state of Texas) isn’t quite built yet, there is still plenty to look forward these next 12 months including SummerSlam 2021, Money in the Bank, and the 2022 Royal Rumble, to name a few. The pro wrestling legend appeared on-stage to introduce music artist Pitbull at the 2021 Riyadh Season Festival launch concert at The Boulevard in Riyadh on Wednesday. But, in all seriousness, there is nothing that can stop the biggest wrestling promotion in the world from putting on a show (just look at the company’s output since the start of 2020) and this year doesn’t look to be any different, with a slate of upcoming WWE events.
